Problems Shoot dates

Since having completed my frameforge i have been having real problems managing to get a shoot date that both my main actors can make, I was thinking if there was anyway of filming it so that i could have one of them shoot some days and the other shoot parts another day but as they are both in every scene this was not really feasable. I got this problem because i left finding actors until after i had finished my script, so far doing this project i have learnt that you should start looking for actors as soon as you have your treatment done so that you can make sure you can get the actors for the days you want.

Frame Forge third Day

I spent another 4 hours in the computer room today, and everything went smoothly again and i managed to finish my frame forge so heres the final version for "leaving Home":

Frame Forge Second Day

I went into uni yesterday and worked on my frame forge for about 4 and a half hours. Its quite an easy program to use and so i havent had any problems today, this is the updated AVI of it:

Frame Forge

Today was my first day on Frameforge, as in Danis lecture i didn't have any sound related questions i decided to use the time to go and start frame forge. I had slight problems to begin with but managed to get the first scene done. Here it is:

Storyboard Second Draft

I have recently redrawn my Storyboards up to about half way through my script. I was told by Debs (Lecturer) that they were ok but i have to do the writing on the computer as my handwriting is poor, and gave me the idea of possibly doing them digitally rather than by hand due to my lack of drawing ability! Here they are: (blogger wont let me upload pictures at the moment so will upload them when i can!)

Shane Meadows - "Somers Town" "This is England"

I have recently baught "Somers Town" by Shane Meadows it is about a 16 year old from Nottingham moving down to London, where he has no money and his only bag of belongings gets robbed from him on his first night there. He then becomes freinds with a young Polish boy and starts going and staying at his house and gets a feel for the hard work orientated Polish way of life. The whole film is in black and white to show the depression and unhappyness felt by the two boys, untill the very end where they go to france to see a girl that they both fancied and is then in colour as you see shots of the boys having great fun and obviously happy.
I feel that his style of film has been quite an inspiration for "leaving Home", This first came to me when i was thinking of film ideas that wouldn't be too studenty but would be interesting for me, for some reason "This is England" another film by Shane Meadows kept coming into my head, and then after watching "Somers Town" I thought that i would like my film to be filmed in a similar style to these. The main thing I like about them is the slighlty gritty camera style and with not too many bright colours, it makes it feel a bit more realistic and seems more like everyday life than the standard bright Hollywood movies, which means i find the viewer can relate more with it rather than just thinking its a film. I also get a sence of slightly amateur actors in it which again just makes if seem more realistic.

Storyboard First Draft

I have recently started my first draft of my story board:

I then showed them to Debs (a lecturer) who said i had to show the direction of the face so the actors know which way they should be facing, To show direction e.g. if someone enteres the room put an arrow showing which way they are going and I had not realised that you had to literally show every shot from the Cameras perspective. I also found out the detail you had to write in the description about the shot such as writing the lines down from where till where in the script. Here are my first drafts:

Semminar Production Designer

We read through a short script Jules had written and made this into a idea for film. we then came up ideas of what it would look like etc, we then had to go and make a design board of pictures that would help us explain the idea of the film to someone, the groups were someone doing props, someone doing make up, someone doing clothes and i did the location. Here is what my college was:

The main idea of the script was that there was a lady and man in a room the man was tied to a chair and the lady was sort of interrogating him about an item that was inside a briefcase. For our film the item inside was a cheese sandwich and the lady was from a rebel group that lived a remote place (top left picture) and the man was the Prime Minister of a futuristic city (top right) where everyone has stooped eating and only takes food supplement pills as they have got so obsessed with obesity and anorexia. The lady is in the government building (middle right picture) on the top floor in a room ( bottom 4 pictures) trying to get the prime minisar to eat this cheese sandwich. The remaining picture was just an idea for what the cars could look like.
Through doing this I've got a rough idea of what Production Designers have to do. I also have realised how one small prop can send an audiences mind going crazy. This was shown to us by the fact that as soon as we thought of a metal suitcase being in a film we all associated it with being a gangsta film.

Sound Enhancing Film - Sound Effect

The Riddle

In this scene you watch a politician hang himself they do not show him actually hang himself but hear the sound of a rope being taught. This adds feeling to the scene and hits the audience harder than if you just saw him jump.

Sound Enhancing Film - Music

A Night at The Roxbury:

Through out this film the song "What is love" by Haddaway is used as part of the narrative, although to begin with it seems slightly more incidental. In this scene using birds singing gives the viewer the idea of it being a nice Summers day, with out having to actually use birds. This is the sort of idea i may like to use in my 6 minute film as i don't have a very large budget.

Sound Enhancing Film - Sound Effect

Supperstar:

Here the sound used to enhance the film is a puking noise as one of the girls goes off screen, to portray her bulimic nature.

New Computer - bit of fun

Over christmas my girlfreinds dad choose some parts that i then paid for to make a sick new computer, just before the start of term i helped build it all up which was pretty interesting:
(pics to come later)
I also bought the new CS4 Production Premium package and decided to mess around a little bit with some snowboard footage i had taken last year and the differnt setings on premier pro and this is what i came up with:

Feed Back from Chris Cook And Makiya

We read through my Script in class and then the main feedback i got was that the story unravels too easily and there are no problems that the characters of dave and garry have to over come. My girlfreind came up with the idea of a scene where the boys try to pick pocket their dad, and also a scene where they are robbed by a Rude Boy. I then took my script in again and we read through it and i got the following feedback:
Why would they aim to pickpocket an alcohoic/ messy guy as a pick pocket victim, put in a scene with the Pickpocket victim being a tool.

Leaving Home

Leaving Home is the story about two brothers Dave and Garry that have lived in fear of their alcoholic parents. On Garry’s 15th birthday they are pushed to the limit and are forced to leave home to a life on the streets. Dave and Garry wonder the streets begging and doing what they have to for money to afford the necessities. Dave the older brother is optimistic and tries to keep Garry in good spirits, whilst Garry is the more pessimistic and thinks nothing will ever get better. One day they go to get some food from the corner shop after having pick pocketed a guy and Dave hears on the radio that the lotto is at a 4 million roll over jackpot. After having all their money taken they realise they have a ticket, but is it a winning ticket?
